The Beach Comber

  • Location: Marazion, Cornwall
  • Status: Completed
  • Client: Private

The Beach Comber is a relatively modern semi-detached property built in the 1960’s and to a poor standard. Working again with a client we had worked with before it was soon easy to get an understanding of what they wanted to do with the property. A full modernizing of the property to bring it into the modern century meant it had to undergo a lot of fundamental works to ensure the fabric of the building was thermally adequate. With space limited internally and eaves that projected, the most obvious option was to externally insulate and clad the building. The location meant that the view needed to be taken advantage of. Uninterrupted views of St Michaels Mount and the bay all year round it was a surprise that it originally had not included the view as the main point of focus in this property.

With the view, space, and access in mind the proposals were to add two small extensions, one to the front and one to the rear to allow for space internally and better access to the rear of the property. Being a typical 60’s-style house light did not filter through the property, so adding carefully placed windows transformed it into a light and welcoming dwelling. Working with again our client Linda Dannvin who oversaw the interior design and project management on site we were able to turn a property into a luxurious home.
